November 2023 Planning Report

2 Manor Way 23/00389/FULL This is the former Edinburgh House School buildings (opposite the Solent View Surgery) that largely retain their original façade until the insertion of apex windows for a loft conversion. These new proposals are a whole series of external changes that will significantly degrade the outward appearance of a building within the Pier Street Conservation Area.  The full objection can be read on the GBC planning portal.

23 Richmond Road, 23/00396/FULL the ‘Country Style’ former Married Quarters that are with the Daedalus Conservation Area.  The LRA has objected on conservation grounds to this retrospective application to retain a garage construction to the side elevation. A rear extension is also included in the application.  Additions to these properties should be in keeping with the design and finish of these properties area that the area appraisal describes as:

Fronting Richmond Road and King’s Road these former married quarters are a good example of the ‘country cottage’ style of housing that developed between the Wars. They are visually very prominent and due to their built form and external appearance have additional protection.

The LRA is not objecting to the principle of the addition of garages or extensions but compliance with the period style and conservation policies should be followed.

56 Cambridge Road, 23/00409/FULL  A corner plot on Cambridge Road and the east side of Salisbury Terrace that leads to the Recreation Ground. This proposes to replace this 2 bedroom bungalow with a much larger 4 bed chalet bungalow and a detached garden room.  This is a large plot and the pitched roof 1½ floor design, together with the garden room do not do not appear to ‘over-mass’ the site, nor will look out of place in this location.

Newton House, Newton Place 23/00360/FULL  Part retrospective, erection of a single story rear extension with balcony on top and use of the garage as a gym (amends applications 13/00278 & 16/00206) Application approved 6 Nov 23

The planning team continues to monitor all applications in Lee on the Solent alongside the larger documents such as the Gosport Local Plan alongside any plans that are of interest to the residents of Lee, such as the applications on the borders of Lee in FBC particularly within the Fareham Lee strategic gap.
