Planning Report September 2023

September 2023 Planning Report.

 General

  • Daedalus Waterfront – The development plans have not yet reached GBC’s Regulatory Board. It is hoped the current financial outlook will not compromise the outline proposals and plans presented to date
  • While Wates are not likely to develop Wykeham Hall and Frobisher Block there is no news about what will happen to these buildings or who might take them on
  • With the recent National Government announcements on changes to the planning laws it seems highly likely that there will be further delays to GBC’s LP 2038 consultation
  • Gosport bus interchange – the HCC approved part of the work is going ahead but the redevelopment of the current bus station/waterfront part is back to square one
  • The former Care Home Chesterholm, on the corner of Britten and Swanage Roads that became a cannabis factory, has reverted to being vacant and for sale/rent. Once again advertised as suitable for multiple occupation, an HMO. The Ward Councillor has written to GBC’s planning department reminding them of the local opposition to the potential of an HMO in this part of Lee and reminding the Council that a residence of 5 or more households has to gain prior registration for use as by multiple unrelated families
  • Haslar Immigration Holding Centre – There is an application to demolish some of the ancillary buildings of later construction as part of the preparation work to update the Immigration Holding Centre to bring it back into service. None of the proposed demolitions are the original Napoleonic Era barracks buildings but later additions such as garages and greenhouses

Planning Applications

23/00274/FULL seeking approval to site a Woodburning Sauna caravan on the shingle has been amended to site the sauna caravan on the bottom of the access slope to the Beach. The LRA objection has been amended to take account of this change (the flora and fauna objection has been removed as the caravan would no longer be on the shingle) but the Open Space objections still apply.

The objections that approval would open the beachfront to similar mobile traders and change the character of Lee Beach has been emphasised.  This would also disadvantage the existing shop traders in town and not help utilise the empty shops that the sauna could otherwise occupy.

23/00345/FULL 56 Cambridge Road, on the corner of Cambridge Road toward the Rec Ground.

Side, rear and front alterations including a front dormer window. A significant enlargement of this property and includes a Garden Room.  Fortunately, a big plot, so little impact as the design mirrors the existing area styles.

23/00352/ADVT 54 Marine Parade East, The Old Ship Restaurant.  A change of signs and all three will be illuminated.  Other than looking slightly different they are in the same places as the present signs so it is anticipated there will be little impact on the present scene.

There is a retrospective application to fix the seats outside the Tap Room on the corner of Brrom Way and the High Street.  It is the same seating arrangement as already present but requires planning permission to be fixed in place.
